Music for Free on the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route is a new music and film project I am launching to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this iconic American corridor and the people who support it.

Adventure films often position the athletes as the heroes and I’ve always felt this approach leaves out an important part of the story. The part about the people who helped along the way.

In June I will pedal 3000 miles from Banff Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico, with filmmaker Keenan Desplanques to tell a different kind of adventure story.

Stopping in the communities along the way I will give free performances and offer thanks to the people who continue to support the GDMBR and its riders.

In the end, mountain vistas and overcoming physical challenge is inspiring but not as inspiring as listening to a stranger tell their story, and in it, hearing your own.

If music for Free had a chorus it would be this: The people are the heroes.
